how do you get a security clearance?

You have to have a job which requires one. For example, SERE requires a Secret clearance. If you applied for the SERE position and got it, you would have to fill out the necessary security clearance paperwork and a background investigation would be started. Upon successful completion of your background investigation, you would be adjudicated with a Secret clearance. You cannot pay a company to conduct an investigation for you, your employer, whether US Gov't or private company, has to display that you have a need to know and they have to provide the appropriate agency with the needed information.
