Question for anyone with experience in SERE. I'm in AF DEP considering SERE. My recruiter is really pushing for me to get into it. Now, I'm a pretty tough chick I enjoy any adrenaline sport, rock climbing, backpacking, caving, mountaineering, skydiving ect. However, I'm realistic and sometimes women physically take 2nd seat to men. My concern is this, I wash out and then I'm stuck taking any job the AF wants to give me. Do the recruits have any say in the "back up" job? Whats the ratio of women/men in SERE? I'm pretty fit, I took the SERE PAST on my own and did well without training for it. Also, any idea on why my recruiter really wants to get me into this, whats in it for them? Thanks for any help you can give me.

well I just graduated selection and there is a girl there right now but she had trouble with the ruck assessment as a lot of people do not just girls. Your recruiter usually gets a double shot if he sends anybody through SERE, Combat Control, and Pararescue. The ratio is very low I think there is only like 4 or 5 girls active right now. but I know one just graduated this last SST.

I remember when I was at Lackland 4 yrs ago during PJ training and there was a female at SERE Indoc (now selection). She was kick ass! If she had only kept her nose clean off duty with underage drinking and more down a dirty things, she would have made it all the way through or at least I would like to think so. She showed up quite a few guys while she was there. I say, if its something you want . . . go for it!

I am currently a recruiter and the reason why he is pushing you so hard to do it is because he thinks you can make it through.....I have yet had a female go SERE but i would really love to find one, just for the simple fact that I got a female into such a career field......We do not get 2 for 1 on SERE we only get those for PJ/CCT......I have had a few girls interested in SERE but when push came to shove it wasnt for them but for someone who loves the outdoors and are in great shape i would push them to because i know they would love this job.......It just a cool thing to say that you got a girl who went and made it through the training when theres only 5 active currently.....If you are really interested do it.....if not dont......ohhh yeah if you do fail out you do have a say so in a job you get but remember the AF needs come first and be open minded.....

There are 4 female SERE specialists and one going through tech school right now. If you are into all the stuff you posted, you will love the job, as long as you like to teach too, people tend to forget about that part.

I am a 24 year old female who is very much interested in SERE. I believe it is the job I have been looking for all these years! I am really excited to have found a female that has made it to instructor! One of 4! I know you haven't logged in for a while, but I just have a few questions to ask you...
How old were you when you began the SERE program, and how long after did you graduate?
What was your workout regimen? Was it difficult to keep up with the guys?
Did you cross-train into SERE, or did you want to go into that career field from the very beginning?
Why are there so few woman in SERE? Is is solely because there just isn't a general interest, or is it physically difficult for women?
As a woman, what kind of advice can you give me for going into SERE?
Thank you so much for making it into SERE so that the rest of us have someone to look up to!

They girl that just made it from 09-02 is 21 or 22 she is a friend of mine up here at fairchild. She went straight into SERE right out of basic. I am not sure what kind of workout she does, whenever I see her working out she is usually doing the same type of workout I would see a guy doing. I do see her doing alot of 8 count body builders.
I am a guy and the only reason I can think of that more women dont make it is because not alot of women seem to be up to the challenge and like alot of the guys the just arent in the kind of shape they need to be physically or mentally
