I just got my dates for training, shipping out to basic June 8th. Assuming I make it past selection, I was just wondering what the living quarters are like for married individuals during SST. Are there separate barracks for married couples, or will my wife and I have to find a rental home?

You will be able to do the BAH thing and find a house near base or live in base housing across the flight line.

How is the base housing? Any idea if pets are allowed?

They've pretty much condemned all of the old base housing on Fairchild to my knowledge, so you will get a fairly new/nice house. Pets are allowed, however it will kind of suck because I have heard some horror stories from dudes I work with about the move-out inspection process and necessary repairs.

Thanks, that's good to know. One more question on pets though...to your knowledge are there any restrictions on size or breed?

One of my buddies had a Rott and a Boxer...the only restriction I could think would be possible is for pits, but I don't think that even applies.

go to fairchildfamilyhousing.com there is some info there about the pets I think under forms and guides pet addendum. This is from the site. 4. The following breeds are not permitted: Akita, Chow, Doberman, Pit Bull, Rottweiler, American Staffordshire Terriers, English Staffordshire Bull Terriers, wolf hybrids or any other breed with dominant traits geared toward aggression. Any dog which is a percentage of Pit Bull or Rottweiler up to half-breed dogs are also prohibited. For residents in housing on or before March 31, 2008, these animals will be “grandfathered” if the resident had this type of pet and it was documented in their housing file. These pets must be muzzled when they are outside of the home.

Leeper, I have basic the same day. A few more months to go (though not soon enough). But to answer your question, if you are married you will get to stay with her in your own home. Check these out www.fairchildfamilyhousing.com/defaultFamily.aspx?cid=13and fairchildhousing.com/If you stay on base, they (Balfour) takes your BAH directly and that pays for your house and utilities. You can have 2 pets with the exception of what was said above I hope to see you at basic!
