Does anyone who has been through indoc and SST have any suggestions for good boots? Currently I am looking at the Danner USAF TXF boot. Any reviews of this boot or any others?

Rocky S2V boots are amazing, however it is honestly pointless to buy them because when you are on Team you will be wearing the all leather Altama. During Selection and Pre-Team you can wear whatever boots you wish.

Are you sure they will issue these to prior service members, or is it just for airmen out of basic? I thought with ABU boots were sage or tan, not black? Have you been through SST yet or is this the word being spread around? There is an article out of Fairchild "SERE Fire Circle" that has multiple photos of trainees wearing boots other than Altimas. But if this the case I guess I better get some old style boots and start rucking in them.

You will be issued boots for SST regardless of whether you are prior service or brand new. They will be what you wear in the field, so if all you have is ABU's to wear out there, so be it.

Gentlemen, thanks for the replies in regards to the boot issue. Any reason why they are issuing old style leather boots for training since that style of boot is no longer worn by most of the Air Force?

The SERE Fire Circle article was about my class. Everybody wore the altimas for Fam. After that we could wear whatever boots were in regs. no Asolos or anything like that. As far as why they make you wear altimas, i dont think anybody really knows. im sure they have some reason though.

The reason they make you wear your issued boots is so you can get in the mindframe of aircrew. Using issued boots and all issued equipment is similar to what an aircrew member would have. I had to wear the altimas all the way throught training.

So are the black all leather altama's issued now or is it the sage ones? I had planned on getting a pair to start rucking in to prep my feet. Thanks for all the replies and input. aforce823 the fire circle was some good reading. congrats for making it through.

Actually one of the main reasons they make you wear the leather Altamas is because they KNOW for a fact that they are 1: a reliable boot, and 2: they will dry out by a fire, as opposed to a composite or highspeed hiking boot that may take longer drying by a fire, or become damage when it is exposed to direct flame.
