I've been training for becomign a SERE specialist and was wondering how much swimming is involved in this career are Sere close at all towards CCT or PJ's do we need to be good swimmers. Right now I am having trouble swimming a 500m yet I can run a mile and a half in 7:50min.

The SERE PAST test requires you to swim 200 meters without stopping, using any combination of strokes. Basically if you can float the 200 meters you will pass. i would recommend getting better in the water regardless. I'm not the strongest swimmer, but I can do the sidestroke all day as long as it's a slow pace. Find a stroke that you are comfortable with, and just remember that there is no time limit, so you can take your time.

Im doing Crossfit training now and I have been on that for about a year. I was wondering about underwater training. do you have to hold your breath for long periods of time?

During the SERE PAST you will also complete two 25m underwater swims. At selection and indoc there are no watercon or pool sessions similar to pre-scuba training for PJ/CCT/SOWT. You will need to hold your breath for a short time at underwater egress course, but don't sweat it...

Hey rubberduck, I'm curious as to where you're getting your info. This website was updated not too long ago and there is no mention of 2 underwater swims.
