Now that I'm back from a little life complication or twenty...
Does any of the cadre know if there are Reserve S.E.R.E. Specialist slots open anywhere in the country? I'm painstakingly making my way down a call list of Reserve recruiters, sadly most don't seem to even think there is a reserve component of S.E.R.E. Specialists.
Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

The only guard units that I know have SERE Specialist positions are at GAWS RQS units (131st at Moffett Field CA, 106th at Long Island NY, and 212th at Anchorage AK). Don't know if any have open slots, but you could focus your calls to recruiters that support those units. From previous posts I know you're looking at Oregon/Washington area... if you haven't already, you could try the 304RQS (AF Reserves unit) in Portland. This may give you some insight as well: www.fairchild.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123234272

The local recruiter here in Portland and I had a few issues (time sensitive paperwork due and he left for SNCO academy without saying anything so my package had to be redone...which bumped me from the slot) and so the one open slot here is gone now. That being said, now I'm looking nationwide for a slot, more than willing to relocate.

Last I heard was that prior service wasn't being accepted into Active Duty, even for S.E.R.E. but I'm willing to bet that either had changed or I was given bum scoop.

You definitely got bum scoop bro. I am a former Marine that switched to SERE active duty back in '08. They dont take very many a year but it can for sure be done. We just had a guy come over from the army at the beginning of this year. The thing is alot of recruiters see it as a waste of time since they dont accept very many from other services so its just easier for them to say they dont take them. You just have to stay on your recruiter or find another thats willing to work with you

I was prior service Army - Has taken me over two years to get a slot. Went back and forth being told that there was no more funding for prior service. Finally a couple months ago I was contacted and told there was a slot open and I accepted. I ship out June 28th if everything goes as planned. I was almost at the point of giving up so if this is what you really want to do only once piece of advice. "NEVER QUIT"
